Allan represents the fourth generation of his family to live in Boise. He was nearly born in a small brick house a short distance from the corner of 13th and Fort streets. Fortunately, his mother made it to St. Al's in time. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Oregon and then Montana, where he was raised. He returned to Boise in the mid-70’s. He is a founding member of the Idaho Photographic Workshop and has studied the art of photography under several accomplished masters, including such notables as John Sexton, Greg Gorman, Keith Walklett, Mary Stieglitz, and Kevin Fuller.
In 2005 he became a professional photographer. His original studio was located on Warm Springs Avenue, a portion of the historic Children’s Home. Later, he relocated to downtown Boise. He is a member in good standing with the Professional Photographers of Idaho and the Professional Photographers of America.
Allan’s philosophy on photography is very simple. “You are passing on a gift of yourself to future decedents, let them know who you were.”
